Grammar Conventions
Grammar Conventions is an exciting and innovative new series devised to assist in the teaching of grammar. |
|
Grammar Conventions provides stimulating activities that will develop students' language skills. It incorporates activities that address both traditional and functional grammar. The aim of Grammar Conventions is to systematically provide all students with interesting and achievable activities based on fulfilling national grammatical requirements.
Why teach grammar?
It is important to teach grammar because it is the framework we use when speaking, listening, reading and writing. A knowledge of grammar allows us to have a shared language to use when teaching/learning the conventions of the written or spoken word.
There are a number of important attributes that de_ne this book:
Content
Grammar Conventions aims to systematically and precisely address the new national direction. Content is specifically developed as required for each year level.
Step-by-step introduction to difficult concepts
Each book's content is carefully organised into bite-sized achievable units. An extensive use of graphics has also been used to assist in the easier understanding of many concepts.
As new concepts are introduced teachers are given specific teaching points upon which they can focus their students' attention. When necessary, definitions and examples are presented in a blue box to aid understanding.
Text Types
Most units are developed around a particular text type. The text types feature high-interest content that students will enjoy reading. Teachers 4 Teachers believe it is important that students are able to recognise the grammatical skills they are learning in 'real life' situations. It is important that children see grammar skills used in context.
Motivational full colour design
This product has been designed in full colour with attractive activities and fabulous age-appropriate illustrations throughout. We take pride in creating resources that are appealing to not only students, but teachers as well.
Authorship
The principal authors of Grammar Conventions are John Walters, a school principal and Lauren O'Brien, teacher. In addition to these fine authors Harry O'Brien, Bill Spence, Greg Purcell, Graham Roberts and Fiona Wrigley have consulted on this series.
